Under the motto "Publish or Perish," a highly competitive publication system has emerged in which research results must be published continuously and visibly in order to secure reputation and career opportunities. At the same time, problematic actors are increasingly appearing within the academic publishing system, including predatory journals, fake conferences, and so-called paper mills.
