Publishing new scholarly findings is a central part of academic research. By publishing their doctoral thesis, researchers demonstrate their ability to conduct independent scientific work. However, in many disciplines, research results are already published during the doctoral phase—for example, in journal articles. In cumulative dissertations, these published articles often constitute the core of the thesis in their unchanged published form.
